<descript>
This metadata record describes the 0.5' digital orthoimagery produced for the North Central Texas Council of Governments in 2011. The imagery was collected using Z/I DMC large format digital camera systems in January and February of 2011. The orthoimagery was produced using Sanborn's proprietary processing system. The orthoimagery is provided 4-band, 8-bits per pixel and in 2000' x 3000' tiles in uncompressed TIFF format and compressed MrSID format.
<purpose>Digital orthoimagery is provided to the NCTCOG and the participating agencies to serve as a basemap for GIS applications. The orthoimagery serves a variety of purposes such as planning, map production, and photo interpretation. The digital orthophoto can be used alone or as a raster basemap for corresponding vector line mapping.</purpose>

<logic>
Compliance with the accuracy standard was ensured by the placement of GPS ground control prior to the acquisition of aerial imagery. The following checks were performed:
1. The ground control and airborne GPS/INS data stream were validated through an aerotriangulation bundle adjustment using Intergraph's ISAT software.
2. Digital orthophotography was validated through a visual inspection of control points, edge matching and general image quality.
</logic>
<complete>
The following methods were used to ensure image quality:
1. Use of targeted ground control during image acquisition.
2. Use of GPS/INS during image acquisition.
3. Checking of controls against ortho product.
4. Post ortho accuracy approval checks for overall image quality (tone, color balance, etc.).

<procdesc>Orthorectified imagery is produced using Sanborn's proprietary software. Orthoimagery is rectified using the AT solution and DEM data. Once rectified, the orthoimagery is colorbalanced to the acceptable parameters established by NCTCOG. Orthoimagery is undergoes manual quality control to check for issues as outlined in the Digital Orthoimagery Acceptance Criteria document. Issues such as warps, smears, misalignments, etc. are corrected using proprietary and non-proprietary photo editing tools and software. Upon completion of the QC process, the orthos are provided to NCTCOG through Sanborn's web-based QA system, Geoserve, for NCTCOG's review. Any unacceptable orthoimagery is corrected and the final orthoimagery is then delivered to NCTCOG on hard drives in TIFF/TFW and SID/SDW formats.</procdesc>

<eaover>Color orthophotos are comprised of pixels. Each pixel is assigned a value of 0 to 255. That number will refer to a color look-up table which contains red, green and blue (RGB) values, each from 0 to 255, for that pixel within the image. Near infrared band comprises the 4th band of the 4-band RGB+NIR imagery.</eaover>
